Creative Stylist Uses Hair As A Canvas For Iconic Artwork

Hair dye is ideal for trying out a completely new aesthetic, giving you a completely different style without spending a dime on new clothes.

And over the past few years, the art of hair-dying has been completely elevated. Even rainbow hair, sunset strands, and locks that glow in the dark are completely doable today — anything goes!

But with all of the vivid hues and wacky styles, where do we go from there? For hairstylist Ursula Goff, she went backward.

That is to say, she went back to the '60s with Andy Warhol's pop art — and even to the late 1800s with van Gogh's Starry Night.

Using hair dye and her art expertise, Goff created hairstyles that mirror famous works of art.

The art spans throughout history and is carefully applied to clients' hair, creating iconic replicas on beautiful flowing canvases.

While these hairstyles are far from practical, they definitely pay creative homage to some of the most iconic artists in history, as well as give testament to Goff's talent.

Hair colorist Ursula Goff first got the idea for her hair dye paintings from another project in which she painted clients' hair using color palettes from famous works of art.

She then considered what it would be like to create the works of art themselves using dye.

"I wondered how hard it would be to actually paint Starry Night — the painting — onto some hair," she stated on her blog.

The results are surprisingly clear and vivid, despite the difficult medium.

First, she free-hands a mock-up of the image on a weft (a faux strand of hair).

Next, she places the painted weft underneath the subjects' hair for a rough guide as she paints.

Though the wefts are used for a rough reference, the pieces themselves are completed by hand without any stencils or tracing.

Her innovative hairstyling is a nostalgic allusion to history's most iconic artists and their paintings.

Perhaps Goff's hair art will one day be celebrated just as much as impressionism and pop art!
