Hilaria Baldwin Dishes On Parenting Before 5th Baby’s Arrival: ‘You Get To Create Pure Love’

Hilaria Baldwin is an old pro at the parenting game. The 35-year-old Mom Brain co-host is currently pregnant with her fifth child with husband Alec Baldwin. The couple announced the good news just a few weeks ago. The pregnancy comes months after they suffered a miscarriage. Thankfully, everything looks great with this pregnancy. With the addition of their latest little one, Hilaria and Alec will have five children under the age of 6.

It may seem like a lot for two people to deal with, but the Baldwins wouldn't have it any other way. The two are extremely family-oriented and enjoy their full, chaotic life. Hilaria sat down with People to reflect on her parenting style, pregnancy, and what it's like raising kids with Alec. She also discussed her partnership with Janie and Jack for the brand's new dog and family holiday collection, which includes the perfect matching looks for the whole family this holiday season.

Hilaria Baldwin is a pro-level mom. With the birth of her fifth child, a girl, in spring 2020, Hilaria and Alec will have five children under the age of 6. It's no small feat for a family, but there's no family quite like the Baldwins.

Hilaria's most recent pregnancy comes after she revealed that she miscarried in the spring. Hilaria had anticipated it due to physical symptoms and a slower than usual heartbeat at an ultrasound. It was still painful, both emotionally and physically, when she had a dilation and curettage procedure.

Thankfully, this pregnancy has been smooth sailing so far. Hilaria spoke to People about parenting. She remembers her thoughts about having kids before she and Alec got started. The idea was, admittedly, overwhelming to her.

"When I met Alec, he was very focused that he wanted kids," Hilaria recalled. "I was 27 — I knew I wanted kids but it wasn’t something I was thinking about right then." That all changed when she welcomed now 6-year-old Carmen into the world.

"I was like, 'Am I going to like this?' And I remember as soon as they put her on my chest after I pushed her out, I felt like, ‘I need to do this again.’ And we did," she recalls fondly of her daughter's birth.

Her partnership with Janie and Jack, which debuted the couple's dog and family collection just in time to make for some adorable holiday photos, came after the birth of 4-year-old son Rafael Thomas. She struggled with what to dress her son in after getting used to dressing her daughter.

"I feel like mothers, regardless of what gender they have first, with the next one they’re like, 'I don’t know how I’m going to change this diaper because it’s different, and I don’t know how I’m going to dress this baby,'" Hilaria explained.

It's no secret that there's a significantly smaller selection of boys' clothes than girls' where children are concerned. "I visited the Janie and Jack store and it was adorable and the boy clothes were unreal," she continued. "That’s really when I fell in love with the brand."

Hilaria is also a dog mom. She has two dogs, Dama and Gitana. She made sure to include them in the Janie and Jack photo shoot, which raises funds for the ASPCA. For every family photo posted to social media with a dog and the hashtag #JJdogsweepstakes, Janie and Jack will donate $1.

If you're interested in Janie and Jack's dog and family holiday collection, The Family Dog Series is available to shop now at janieandjack.com. Pieces are available for the whole family and four-legged fur babies at prices between $20 and $165.

A house that has four kids and two dogs may sound like total chaos, but Hilaria and Alec embrace every moment of it. She thinks a good sense of humor goes a long way. It comes with challenges, of course, at which point she tries her best to stay patient and calm.

"Trust me, my kids fight, they take toys, they name call, they do all of the things that normal kids do," Hilaria said. "What your kid is doing, even if it’s upsetting — hitting, name-calling, excluding — that’s normal."

"We did it when we were young, and so our job is to be patient, to be kind, to be loving, to be firm and to teach right from wrong," she explained. While those moments can take a lot to get through, she likes to look at the other side of it, too.

"You get to create pure love," she noted with a smile. "It’s amazing when you are a mother of many; you see how many different people can come out of you. It really gives you an appreciation for life as a whole and how we are so unique."
