A human hand found on a playground in Ireland is believed to have been dropped by a bird flying overhead. The body part was dumped onto an empty schoolyard in northern Dublin on February 21, 2025, according to Irish outlet Raidió Teilifís Éireann, or RTE.
Our Lady Immaculate school officials reportedly found the hand a couple hours later and notified police. Students were on break the day of the gruesome discovery.
Detectives checked security video from the area. The body part was handed to forensic experts who are conducting DNA tests; there were no reports indicating foul play.

Seabirds may have carried the hand from the coastline, according to RTE. The Irish Independent said one “prominent theory” is that the hand belongs to a local boy seriously injured in a gas canister explosion at a bonfire the night before.
According to the Irish Times, that 12-year-old victim was reportedly one of several children playing with the canister in the city’s Darndale area. The British tabloid Metro reported the canister contained laughing gas.
Classes at Our Lady Immaculate were scheduled to be back in session this week.
