It’s important to check in with your parents. Unless they’ve done something that warrants their removal from your life, it’s good to keep the lines of communication open so that you don’t become strangers. They deserve to know what’s going on in your life, even when you’re no longer living under their roof. It could also be a manner of safety.
If you tell your parents where you are and what you’re doing, they could be a line of defense, should anything happen. And if your parents believe you’ve died, a phone call could help to quash those rumors.

A family tiff turned into a nasty lie.
Callum, a man in New Zealand, called into the ZM radio station with an unbelievable story. Callum explained that while his parents lived in Christchurch, he lived in Wellington. Those two cities are on two different islands, so Callum didn’t see his parents all that much. Callum’s sisters, who also lived in Christchurch, weren’t getting along that well with their parents. During this time of tension, Callum’s older sister delivered a message. “My older sister actually called my parents up and told them that I had died,” he said.

But she didn’t stop there. Callum’s older sister also told their parents that his funeral had already taken place. She said that they hadn’t been invited because “my ex-girlfriend’s parents didn’t want them there.” After Callum’s sister lied, their parents tried calling everyone they knew to learn what happened. The one person they didn’t call was Callum because … they thought he wouldn’t answer. His sister told their parents that Callum had been stabbed to death.
The radio hosts wondered how his sister kept up the lie.
At this point, the radio hosts agree that Callum’s sister is a “crazy b—-.” They also wondered how she was able to keep this lie up for six months. “I was just busy with life and work and then I was like ‘wait — I haven’t heard from my parents in a while, I wonder what’s going on?” he explained. “And I gave them a call up, and my mum and dad were like ‘You’re alive?’”
Strangely enough, Callum said that during that time, it wouldn’t have been so hard to believe that he had been stabbed to death.
Naturally, his parents were relieved, but confused. “My mum was absolutely in tears and my dad was just kind of gobsmacked — he was just like ‘what the f— is going on?'”
After all was said and done, Callum’s parents don’t exactly speak to their eldest daughter all that much anymore, because, well … she made them believe their son was dead for six months.
