Even if you've never seen a single episode of I Love Lucy, which is honestly a shame if true, chances are likely that you're still familiar with the essential premise of the show. As the title character, Lucille Ball was always attempting to wriggle herself into show business and rub shoulders with stars of the era, despite her husband's disapproval. As a big-time bandleader, Ricky wanted nothing more than a simple housewife, but that was never enough to satisfy this fiery redhead!
Of course, Lucy was constantly getting herself into trouble with her schemes. In this classic season one episode, which Ball herself admitted was her all-time favorite of the series, Lucy decides to go behind Ricky's back yet again to audition for a commercial. All goes surprisingly smooth, until she's forced to sample the product being sold, "Vitameatavegamin."
It was hailed as a way to "spoon your way to health" with servings of vitamins, meat, vegetables, and minerals as its ingredients. However, the fictional supplement also contained 23 percent alcohol, something Lucy was unaware of as she took her first taste of the elixir. Gulping down a stout spoonful, she has some understandable difficulty selling the line, "It's so tasty, too!"
Ball's hilarious facial contortions were so entertaining not only to the audience watching, but to the actors in her scene. The man playing the commercial director was reportedly forced to bite his inner cheek in order to keep from breaking during each take!
