Identical Twin Brothers Look Nothing Alike – Yet They Suffer From The Exact Same Disorder

Though humans have made much progress in the medical field in the past few decades, we must acknowledge that there are still many advances and new discoveries left to be made. What we know today is only the tip of the iceberg!

In fact, there are many diseases, conditions, and disorders doctors and researchers are still trying to understand and cure.

One of these conditions is type 1 neurofibromatosis (NF1). It's a genetic disorder that affects just 1 in 3,000 people.

Two of these individuals are Adam and Neil Pearson. They are identical twins, but perhaps you wouldn't be able to tell: the disease affects them differently.

Adam is plagued by benign growths on his face that have disfigured him over the years. Neil suffers from short-term memory loss and epilepsy. Neither brother experienced symptoms until some years later – their own mother used to be unable to tell them apart!

A new documentary, Horizon: My Amazing Twin, follows the lives of the 31 year olds, as doctors struggle to figure out how to mitigate the affects of their disorder. Meanwhile, they live their lives as normally as they can, knowing quite well that they are on extraordinary journeys.

Adam and Neil Pearsons are identical twins. In fact, they looked so similar that their own mother couldn't tell them apart.

Now, at 31, they are both suffering from the effects of the same genetic disorder. Adam's face is disfigured from benign tumors, and Neil suffers from epilepsy and memory loss.

As a result, they're both lived through difficult childhoods. As adults, they live with their parents.

Adam has had over 33 operations to remove the tumors, and has lost sight in one eye.

Importantly, he's making sure to awareness about the rare condition by becoming a well-known TV personality. He tells Daily Mail, "'It would be an opportunity to raise the profile of people like me who have a condition that affects their appearance."
