Depending on what time you're reading this, chances are you've already begun planning what you'd like to have for lunch or dinner today. You may even be one of those individuals I'm so envious of who are able to organize a week's worth of meals for themselves and loved ones in advance.
That's not the case for the population of homeless people struggling to survive in many of our biggest cities. That's why organizations and shelters who provide free meals, showers, and, above all, kindness, are so important for helping those men and women find a way back on their feet.
Of course, it isn't easy funding one of those facilities, to which the folks at London's Ace of Clubs shelter can attest. That's what makes one local fast food restaurant's donation program such an amazing gift.
Twice a week, David from Ace of Clubs makes the drive to a KFC, where he picks up pounds and pounds of chicken that would have otherwise gone to waste.
Instead of tossing the leftover chicken in the trash, they bag it up and pop it in the freezer for David to take to the shelter's kitchens, where it is used to create casseroles and curries for those who rely on daily offerings for their only nutritional intake.
The genius program not only provides for those who are hungry, but helps them save money that can be reallocated to further assist their clients.
