Lance Bass and his husband, Michael Turchin, are new dads! The pair took to Instagram to announce that their twins have been born via surrogate.
Lance wrote, "The baby dragons have arrived!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I can not express how much love I feel right now. Thank you for all the kind wishes. It meant a lot. Now, how do you change a diaper??! Ahhhhhhhh!"
Lance also shared the twins' adorable names: Violet Betty and Alexander James. Alexander was born first, weighing 4 lbs., 14 oz., and was followed by his sister one minute later.
Michael also celebrated on his own social media, sharing the same photos as Lance and writing, "Introducing the newest members of the Turchin-Bass household: Violet Betty and Alexander James!!!! They’re pure perfection and yes that includes the dozens of poops we’ve already dealt with. Our hearts our full!!! Thank you everyone for the well wishes ."
Lance and Michael were first introduced at a friend's party, and the two got married in 2014. Michael once told People that meeting Lance was really intimidating. "I am so shy and never would have made the first move," he said. "I was thinking, 'This is Lance Bass. I grew up watching him on TV and listening to his music.' That just added a whole other layer of intimidation."
The pair opted to share their wedding on TV, which makes them the first gay couple to do so. Their special, Lance Loves Michael: The Lance Bass Wedding, aired on E! in December 2014.
It actually took Lance and Michael three years to have their children. As The Things has stated, the pair worked with numerous surrogates throughout the journey.
Michael told People that the pair actually went through nine egg donors in their quest. "We got all the way down the path of about to retrieve their eggs. Some just wouldn't produce enough eggs; some weren't good genetic matches. If you're going to be a match, you don't want to even risk it."
Lance also told People that once their final surrogate was pregnant, they were still cautious. "Because of what we've been through the last four years, we were very cautious to get excited," he explained. "And it kind of sucks because when you find out you're pregnant, you want to celebrate with your family. You start planning their future in your head already, but we were so scared because we didn't want to go through the pain again of losing them. We told our friends and family about the ninth week, when we finally felt comfortable. You think you're going to jinx it or something."
Lance also explained that the two were really excited about having a boy and a girl. "We always knew we wanted at least two kids, it would be nice to have a boy and a girl just to feel the experiences of raising both or whatever they end up being," he said. "I think it's just amazing that science has gotten this far where we can make the healthiest human beings ever. And I hope in our lifetime, we'll be able to see the whole world be able to do this."
