When Lionel Richie Comes Out To Sing ‘Hello,’ The Crowd Goes Wild

When Adele came out with her new song, 'Hello,' the world went absolutely nuts. But that wasn't the first song with that title that did astronomically well.

In 1984, Lionel Richie released his song, 'Hello.' It was the third single from his album, Can't Slow Down. The song's most memorable line is, "Hello? Is it me you're looking for?" layered atop a simple piano chord structure. With Adele's song starting with, "Hello? It's me. I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to meet…," the two songs are undeniably similar, just separated by a little more than 30 years.

Do you remember the 'Hello' hubbub the first time it rolled around in the '80s?

In this 1987 performance, the crowd simply can't wait for Richie to come onto the stage and start his concert. You probably know the feeling: when your favorite musician is about to appear right in front of your eyes and sing to you for an hour or so. While a player piano bangs out those memorable opening chords, everyone knows exactly what's in store. But when Richie's voice fills the arena from backstage? The crowd goes wild!

Richie's reaction to the crowd is even better than the crowd's cheering. His performance is 100 percent worthy of the excitement, though!
