Man Balks After Finding Out TJ Maxx Pays $12 An Hour: ‘Why Their Clothes Are So Cheap’

A man on TikTok took to the platform to vent about something upsetting he learned in the middle of a job interview: If he decided to take the job, he would only be making $12 an hour. The TikToker, @sobeatmyass, said that he had an interview for a job at discount clothing store T.J. Maxx, and although the interview went well, he went through the whole process only to learn that the job did not meet his expectations.

“Why the f— did I have a job interview at T.J. Maxx the other day, and then everything went well, but in the end he told me that they pay $12 an hour and get paid every week,” he said in the video.

He went on to say that he decided he would not take the job because "that’s why their clothes are so cheap because [they’re] not paying those people."

But when someone from the store called him to offer him the job, he couldn't say no.

"I'm truly baffled. I don’t know why I wasn’t able to tell this man 'no' on the phone just now, knowing I didn’t want to do this job," he continued in the video.

Some of the people who commented on the video were surprised to find out that the man was only offered $12 an hour to work at the store.

"$12 an hour but rent is like $2k ?!" one TikTok user commented.

"These companies are tripping," another person wrote. "You can barely even buy a meal somewhere for $12."

"They were paying that when I was in college ten years ago," another person commented. "That's wild."

But others told the TikToker that he should consider taking the job because $12 is still better than nothing. In the meantime, he could look for a better job, they pointed out.
