4-Year-Old Boy Survives Fall From 6th-Story Apartment In New York City

New York Police Department first responders are being commended for acting quickly to ensure a little boy who suffered a scary fall was OK.

Bodycam footage from April 2022, shows officers arriving to the Patterson Houses NYCHA complex in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx, where a 4-year-old boy fell from his sixth-story apartment window. Officers were relieved to see the boy was awake and alert when they approached.

Residents were helping the boy when emergency responders and officers arrived. Together, they were able to move the boy, who appeared to have a leg injury but was otherwise OK. He was taken to an area hospital for evaluation.

Residents in the area were surprised to see what had happened because there are window guards in most apartment windows. It appears the little boy moved a piece of wood wedged between an air conditioner and a window, then moved the plastic piece and created the gap that he fell through. It was the only window in the apartment without a guard.

The boy's mother was home at the time and horrified to discover what happened to her son. She rushed to his side, thankful her son was alive. Both the NYPD and the Administration for Children's Services are investigating the incident.
