For loved ones who visit a family member’s plot at a cemetery, they can never really be sure who else is coming to pay their respects when they’re not there. For some parents who have lost a son or a daughter and are still holding on with everything they’ve got, this notion can ferociously gnaw at them.
John and Mary were dedicated and loving parents who tragically lost their son Michael in a horrific car accident. Ever since their reality shifted so drastically, they both had a difficult time moving on because they didn’t know anything else besides being parents to Michael.
Every day, John and Mary would visit Michael’s grave so they could feel closer to him. They took him flowers and little mementoes and would talk to him and tell him what was happening within their family and the community.
On a seemingly normal day, John and Mary went to visit Michael’s grave when they immediately noticed something resting on top of it that wasn’t left behind by either of them. Mary picked up a single red rose and found herself curious about who came to visit Michael’s grave while they weren’t there and why they had left behind a single rose.
After months of this happening daily, John asked Mary if they should put up a video camera in a nearby tree to keep a record of everyone who visited Michael’s plot. Mary wasn’t sure if that was a good idea, but late one evening, John drove back in the dark of night to hide a small recording device so they could uncover the truth.

After the camera had been up for a couple of weeks, John wanted to retrieve it to see who was leaving Michael the red roses, but the camera had been confiscated due to privacy laws within the cemetery. Luckily for John, he knew the groundskeeper and he was able to get the footage.
