Couple Buys Trinket For $4.99 At Thrift Store, Then Turn It Over And See Soldier’s Name Engraved

You never know what kind of treasure you will find at a thrift shop. Sometimes, I like to walk into one and browse, to see if there's anything that strikes my fancy. At times, I hope that I will find something valuable and precious. Though that hasn't happened yet, I haven't lost hope.

But this did happen to a couple who saw a shiny trinket on the jewelry rack they liked. They bought the trinket for a mere $4.99.

They knew right away that it was precious, and not just to one person. It was a Purple Heart medal that had somehow gotten lost in a box of belongings.

Laurie Hardy immediately started working to locate the owner of the medal. The soldier's name was quite original: Eual H. Whiteman. She thought that it shouldn't be too hard to find this man or his family…

That's when she posted a photo of the medal online. The photo was shared enough times that she eventually connected to Phyllis Lawson, an ex-sister-in-law of the soldier. She revealed that Eual passed away in 1991.

Though it's not sure how the medal made its way from the soldier's home in Seattle all the way to Arizona, the soldier's family's happy that it has been restored to them.
