When the man in the video below took a bite out of his fish, he quickly noticed that something was off.
When you see what's in it, you'll be as grossed out as when a mom found a small creature in her can of tuna fish!
Say someone throws their plastic water bottle on the sidewalk — it falls into the street's storm drain and eventually finds its way to the ocean.
While many fear that innocent animals will get caught in the plastic bottles and die, though that fear is valid, there is another one we should be concerned with.
Small fish like to eat the plastic they discover on the ocean floor.
According to Smithsonian Magazine: "The toxins readily transfer to small fish through plastics they ingest and cause liver stress. This is an unsettling development, given that we already know such pollutants concentrate further the more you move up the food chain, from these fish to the larger predatory fish that we eat on a regular basis."
That means, though small fish consume tiny amounts, the bigger fish that eat them ingest much higher amounts.
The trouble is: We eat those big fish. All of that tuna and salmon becomes dangerous when we don't do this one small step.
Watch the video below to learn how you can do your part to prevent toxic chemicals from ending up in our food!
