Sadie Marquardt is one of the most watched belly dancers on YouTube with 30 million hits on just one video alone. A few years ago, not even pregnancy could keep her from performing and perfecting her craft. In fact, many people even say being pregnant makes her an even more stunning performer.
Millions are enamored by Sadie's pregnant belly dance, firing back at those who think dancing will harm her baby. Others are inspired to discuss body image, and society's standards of beauty. One YouTube commenter says, "In the fashion mags, on TV, in the movies; very skinny, boney women without any curves at all are held up as being the most beautiful. Have a gander at Sadie. Ain't she gorgeous?"
According to Birth Adventure, belly dance has a long but largely undocumented history as a birth dance, a pregnancy dance and a rite of passage. Originating in the Middle East and dating back thousands of years, belly dance was practiced primarily in the private realm of the women’s quarters. Women would gather around the laboring mother to dance, encouraging the mother to imitate their movements. Practicing dance movements during labor helped the mother to relax, and practicing the dance before and during pregnancy toned and strengthened the abdominal muscles and facilitated coordination of the muscles needed to give birth.
This performance is amazing, sexy, and gorgeous. What do you think? Let us know, and please SHARE with your friends on Facebook!
