In the months that they spend together each day, teachers and students form a special bond. In fact, some teachers can even be heard referring to their students as their children.
Life can be tough at times, and a teacher can make a huge difference for a kid. Whether it's a simple word of encouragement or just a kind and listening ear, teachers have the power to make a huge impact.
And each year there are new students and new opportunities for teachers to act as a mentor and friend to a child or teen trying to find their way in the world.
A student will never forget a good teacher for the rest of their lives. They will always remember the time in their life, whatever it may be, they got through because a teacher spoke kindly to them, or pointed them in the direction of their passion. Teachers sometimes come to mean just as much to their students as their students mean to them.
That's why, when longtime school teacher Lorraine Perna was diagnosed with cancer, her Ohio students were there for her.
Even more than that, the students did something amazing to show their support before Perna started chemotherapy.
More than 100 of her students crowded the teacher's front lawn, playing instruments and simply showing Perna that they're there for her.
It's a truly amazing moment to see!
