Nick Lucas Sings “Tip-Toe Through The Tulips” In Lost 1929 Film

Back in 1929, superstar Nick Lucas starred in one of the Warner Brothers' first full-length color films ever made, titled Gold Diggers of Broadway. The film used a two-strip Technicolor method to provide beautiful images that helped make the musical one of the biggest box office sensations of the decade.

The movie boosted the career of Lucas and earned the equivalent of $69 million dollars in today's standards. Even though it was chosen as one of the best films of 1929, unfortunately, no full print of the full movie is known to survive.

Luckily, the last 20 minutes of the film remain safe, allowing a window into the spirit and adventurous nature of the roaring '20s flapper era, all nearing the destructive nature of the Great Depression.

In the clip below, you can listen to Lucas singing one of the most famous songs from the movie, “Tip-Toe Through The Tulips.” This amazing clip shows the massive budget that the film had. We especially love the sets and the amazing tulip costumes at the 2:34 mark!

Over the years, people had forgotten all about the hit movie, but luckily the oddball singer Tiny Tim reinvigorated the song and brought it right back into popular culture in the 1960s.
