Chad Mock was driving behind another vehicle in Mankato, Minnesota, when he happened upon a terrifying sight. The back door to the gray car in front of him somehow opened up — and a 2-year-old girl, who was strapped to her car seat at the time, fell out of the moving vehicle and onto the concrete.
Chad couldn't believe what he was witnessing as the car seat tumbled into the middle of the road. Had he not been paying attention, he could have driven right over the helpless child.
While filming on his cellphone, Chad stopped his truck and brought all traffic to a halt. He desperately tried flagging down the gray car, but it was already gone.
It took her mother, who was driving at the time, a few more blocks to realize her daughter had fallen out. By the time she circled back, she was understandably hysterical.
Chad ran over to the little girl and breathed a sigh of relief; luckily, the toddler was relaxed and did not appeared injured at all.
Karen Blackburn, a car seat technician, told Inside Edition that every car seat comes with anchor straps that can be connected to the vehicle seat. "A forward facing car seat has a tether at the top that goes under the vehicle's head restraint and connects in the back," she says.
