It had been a typical rainy afternoon in the small town of Lindsborg, Kansas. The pouring rain had soaked the town amid the onset of fall and most residents were trying to stay inside and get cozy.
The rain had bathed the usually bright town into a duller version of itself. In the quiet of the rain, an unhoused man named Caleb sat huddled outside a diner with his worn clothes clinging to his frail frame. Caleb was a quiet individual who rarely got in anyone’s way, but that would soon change.
As Caleb watched people come and go from the diner, he couldn’t help but think about how much his life had changed over the years. There was a series of life-altering and unfortunate events that had brought him to this point.
After what seemed like months of financial hardships, he soon found himself living on the streets. Every day, Caleb looked for work, but nothing seemed to pan out. He’d often sit outside of the diner with a cup in his hand and ask patrons for spare change to help get him through the week.
One day during the cold fall months, Caleb was seated outside the diner when he spotted a woman inside who appeared to be having difficulty paying for her pizza. He immediately recognized the look of panic and discomfort on her face and decided to help her.
