A woman is suing salad restaurant Chopt after allegedly finding part of a human finger in her salad at a Mount Kisco, New York, location of the chain restaurant.
Allison Cozzi alleges that the experience created lots of issues in her life, including both physical and mental symptoms. She says she experienced nausea and body pains in addition to panic attacks and shock. Chopt is a chain with locations throughout the United States. It specializes in salads, grain bowls, and sandwiches.
The woman says the incident happened on April 7, 2023, when she ordered a salad at Chopt.
“Shortly after [the] plaintiff purchased the salad, while she was eating the salad, she realized that she was chewing on a portion of a human finger that had been mixed in, and made a part of, the salad,” the lawsuit filed in Westchester County on Monday, November 27 states.

According to the lawsuit, a manager had been chopping arugula — and also accidentally sliced off part of her finger.
More specifically, the manager “chopped off, or cut off, a portion of her left pointer finger," according to the lawsuit. The manager who chopped her finger went to the hospital, but apparently left part of her finger behind.
The contaminated arugula — which allegedly contained part of the manager's finger — was left at the restaurant and then served to customers, the lawsuit claims.
Unfortunately, the woman bit into the salad and only noticed something was off when she began to chew her food. The Westchester County Department of Health later investigated the incident, according to Greenwich Time.
The restaurant was fined $900 for the incident, following the investigation, but now, the woman is seeking monetary damages for the injuries that she had following the incident.
The woman and her lawyer have not commented on the case. Her lawyer told The New York Post that the woman wants to avoid potentially making her anxiety worse.
Chopt Creative Salad Company has not commented on the case. On Chopt's website, the restaurant is described as "a creative salad company." The company's mission is to "make healthy eating exciting for all people."
