A woman took to TikTok to share that she's struggling to find a job — and she wonders if this is something that everyone is struggling with right now, or if it might be because of her tattoos and piercings. The TikToker, @ashxobrien, explained that she recently applied for a job at T.J. Maxx and the company sent her a rejection letter via email. When she received it, she decided to go to the store to find out why she didn't get the job. She said she was told she didn't have enough experience, and that it wasn't about her tattoos.
However, the TikToker isn't sure if that was really the case.
She went on to say that she hates how her tattoos might be impacting whether or not she's able to find a job. "Just because I have tattoos doesn't mean I'm not going to be a good worker," she said. "I do not understand that at all."
She continued by saying that "some of the most smart, intelligent people I've ever met are people with tattoos and piercings." Because the person at T.J. Maxx reportedly told her that the decision to not hire her was not because of her tattoos, she also considered the possibility that the person was telling the truth: that she was actually rejected because she didn't have enough experience.

However, she was also confused by that because she was applying for a retail job at T.J. Maxx, which made her wonder how teenagers and young adults with no prior experience are supposed to find jobs if places like T.J. Maxx don't want to hire people who don't have experience.
She asked if she's the only one struggling to find a job right now. On platforms like TikTok and X, people responded to her video and assured her that it is pretty challenging to find a job right now, even without tattoos — but many pointed out that the tattoos definitely aren't helping her.
Others told her that her tattoos are definitely the reason she's struggling to find a job.
"As someone who loves tattoos, it's 100% the tattoos," one person commented on TikTok.
Some other TikTok users were more specific.
Another person on TikTok wrote: "It ain’t jyst cause you have tattoos. It is the type of tattoos and the placement of them."
In a follow-up video, the TikToker responded to some of the comments. Some of the people who commented on her original video seemed to think that she wasn't aware that having tattoos on her neck or her face would make her job search more challenging, but she told them that she was already aware of this.
Still, she believes that some employers that are paying minimum wage are expecting too much from their employees.
"I'm not trying to be a doctor, I'm not trying to be a lawyer, and I'm not trying to work for the federal government," she said in her video. "I was trying to work for TJ Maxx."
"When these places are only paying minimum wage, I don't feel like they should have the right to be super picky about how people look," she continued.
She added that an employee's work ethic can't be determined based on their tattoos, piercings or hair color.
Additionally, she felt that a lot of the responses simply criticized her appearance. She added that she would love to see someone explain why having tattoos or piercings or colored hair would mean that a person is not able to do their job.
