All too often, senior dogs wind up living out their golden years in animal shelters. Often, owners sacrifice their dogs simply because the cannot care for them (health problems for pets are very expensive), but other times owners give up their dogs because "they aren't puppies anymore."
Photographer Pete Thorne looks at older dogs differently than most folks. In fact, he found that the more senior the canine, the more powerful the portrait. The health of older pups is at higher risk in a shelter environment and they're considered less adoptable than their younger doggy pals, so it's vital that we do as much as possible to quell negative stereotypes about senior dogs. We applaud Pete Thorne's series, because it accentuates the precious quality that all senior dogs possess – a little life behind the light in their eyes.
"Do not regret growing older. It is a privilege denied to many." Thank you, Pete Thorne, for the beautiful reminder that older dogs are lovable, too.
