Wichita Falls Animal Services Posts Husky For Adoption But People Want Something Else

Adopting an animal is a great thing to do. There are tons of reasons why bringing an animal home from a shelter can improve your own life. At the top of that list is that you'll be saving a life, especially if the shelter you're adopting from isn't a no-kill one.

Like a lot of humane societies and animal service organizations, the Wichita Falls Animal Services office likes to list animals available for adoption on its Facebook page. One such listing recently caught the attention of thousands of people outside of Wichita Falls, and it's pretty easy to see why.

The listing is ostensibly about Sky, a husky who lives at the facility. But the text of the post makes it seem like the real star might be Zackry Majewski, an employee. If the comments on the post are anything to go by, that's definitely the case.

The post reads, "Zackry Majewski started with us in October of 2020. He has a great compassion for the animals in our care. He is especially fond of Huskies and can always be found snuggling with a puppy in the shelter. On his time off Zac enjoys hiking and listening to Country Music."

Then the post pivots back toward Sky, the husky in question:

"Of course Zac chose our resident Husky to spotlight. Sky is a beautiful girl waiting for a forever home. Give us a call at (940) 761-8894 to set up an appointment to meet her."

Comments started pouring in, and not all of them were about Sky. One woman immediately saw her chance and wrote:

"Single and dog mom to two precious weenies here. Holllllla at me zac!"

Another called for Zac to get a raise for all the work he's doing for the shelter:

"Majewski the Majestic just got a bunch of fur babies adopted.
I think he needs a raise
Perhaps a public auction for a date ?
He can split the proceeds with the animal shelter and take the rest of the cut as a hefty bonus…"

One woman named Nicole asked if she could foster Zac, since trying to "adopt" previous guys didn't work:

"Is Zachary available for foster? I've tried the whole 'adoption' thing with guys but it seems like I'm made better for fostering them before they go off to their forever homes ."

Another person pointed out the obvious: The shelter really should have been putting this man out there more often. "Y'all should have been posting him all along. He will get animals adopted."

Another woman, named Katharine, also offered her home up as a foster home … for Zac:

"I've tried adoption but it didn’t really workout. I have some training experience and have had positive outcomes with a variety of programs. As long as he is kid friendly and doesn't mind the active lifestyle and can handle my work schedule I would be happy to Foster Zack till he can find the most suitable forever home."

Happily, it seems the scheme worked: Sky the husky has been adopted. The Animal Services page updated the post to acknowledge the adoption:

"We know inquiring minds would like to know, but yes. Sky has been adopted. We have plenty of other animals available for adoption, so please keep that in mind. You can see the animals currently in our facility at www.petango.com/cityofwichitafallsanimalservices. Thank you for all the interest in adopting her."
