Andrew Foy is only 13 years old and has never taken a guitar lesson in his life, but that hasn't stopped him from becoming completely awesome at it in just four years. He covers just about everything, from TV show theme songs to nearly any pop song you'll hear on the radio. But he really won me over when he performed "I'll Make a Man Out of You" from my favorite Disney movie, Mulan.
I may be a grown woman, but that hasn't stopped my childhood love for Disney movies (and music) from crossing over into my adult life. And it looks like I'm not alone, either — these young women stunned the entire audience when they performed a song from The Little Mermaid on a massive talent show. But I've definitely never heard this song performed on the guitar before. After hearing Andrew's version of it, though, I can only hope we get to hear more of our favorite Disney tunes strummed out!
What I love most about Andrew's performance is how he manages to capture the power and emotion behind this epic ballad. These guys also do a fantastic job performing an a cappella mashup of a whole bunch of Disney tunes, but this young teen is somehow able to deliver a whole lot of that Disney magic without even opening his mouth. Don't be surprised when we see Andrew performing on a stage in front of thousands of people someday!
