Unfortunately for some families, their newborn untouched baby can be born with life-threatening medical issues.
There are millions of conditions and shocking diagnoses that can come up when a child is born that show no signs while the mother was pregnant. Those conditions or issues are always heartbreaking, devastating, and life-changing, even if the baby is going to be OK.
I can imagine those brief minutes, hours, or days can feel like a lifetime of worry.
My sister was in labor when she ran into complications. Although the baby was fine, they didn't know what was going on and they had to perform emergency surgery. Leaving a family with no answers and a loved one in an operation room is a recipe for complete pessimism.
Thankfully my sister and my nephew ended up being just fine after surgery, but sometimes that's not the case.
With Brandon Dreyer, that was definitely not the case. Brandon's parents Kati and Lucas had their newborn baby home from the hospital for just three days before tragedy struck them.
When they brought him back into the hospital they were told that Brandon had a condition called hypoplastic left heart syndrome, which basically means he aws missing half of his heart.
He was kicked down multiple times, and eventually his heart proved to be too weak to keep him alive.
So he had to wait for a heart transplant. Below, his journey is told by his parents and doctors who all agree in the miracle that this little boy is!
