‘Deranged’ Diner Owner Yells At Toddler, Then Mom Calls Her Out On Facebook

It seems there's an ongoing battle between people who do and don't have kids. If you don't have children and see one behaving in a way that you don't approve of, it's easy to judge. If it's your child in question, it's easy to get defensive since every parent's instincts tells them to protect their child.

The situation can result in a grand miscommunication when both parties become frustrated. At Marcy's Diner in Portland, OR, owner Darla Neugebauer found herself in a difficult situation.

A couple brought in their toddler, who began to get fussy about her meal. The child cried for about 40 minutes, according to Neugebauer. That's when Neugebauer slammed her hands on the counter and said, "This has got to stop."

Horrified that her child was yelled at, the mother wrote on the diner's Facebook.

"I had the worst experience at this establishment. The owner is an absolute lunatic and screamed in the face of my almost 2-year-old child because she was crying. Who in their right mind would behave like this unless you are deranged?" The mother wrote.

The comment quickly went viral, and hundreds of people were picking sides. When asked, Neugebauer told WMTW she stood by her decision to yell at the child. However, many commenters quickly began to complain to the city about the diner.

Calls alleged that Neugebauer spit in their food and rubbed it on her private parts, which just wasn't true. Another person made a fake post pretending to be Neugebauer and claimed to spit in people's food. The owner plans to sue for defamation.

While this clearly got ugly for some, one thing is for sure: Parents have a right to stand up for their children, but if you have one, it's probably not best to take them to Marcy's Diner.
