As a kid, I always dreamt of having a totally unique and decked-out bed. I went through a princess phase, a bunk bed phase, and even a pirate ship phase. The list goes on and on…
That's why my inner child soared when I saw this amazing DIY TeePee trundle bed, built from scratch by blogger Sarah of Hello Bowsers!
I've seen some awesome family-inspired builds, like these parents who created an amazing summer playset for their kids — but Sarah's creation really brings the DIY game to a whole new level.
Inspired by funky children's furniture she'd seen in magazines and blogs, but totally dismayed by the large price-tags, Sarah decided to hunker down, grab some lumber and tools, and make a go of it herself. The end result? This one-of-a-kind kid's bed looks straight out of the most upscale catalogue.
Want to know how she did it? Let's find out!
She started building the trundle bed first, as it would determine the height of the main bed frame. After buying the lumber and materials, she sanded everything thoroughly.

She finished the frame for the trundle bed first for a solid starting point.

Once the base was built, she secured the slats in place and attached four castors.

Next she started assembling the frame of the trundle bed out of pine boards, taking care to hide the screws and rough edges.

Then she gingerly slid the finished frame inside of the base, screwing them both down.

Our handy lady then primed and painted the trundle, creating cute grass shapes along the edges.

Afterwards, she started on the frame for the MAIN bed, making sure she installed small stilts to keep it two inches higher than the trundle (ensuring it would slide neatly underneath).

Next, she started working on the TeePee's roof, cutting two triangles of finished plywood and removing two circles.

She finished the roof and thoroughly primed and sanded the whole thing

Finally, she attached the main bed frame to the trundle, added the TeePee pieces, stilts, and roof — making sure everything was properly supported.

Hello Bowsers shared the finished product. What a cozy sanctuary for your little one and a perfect bed for a fun sleepover!

Sarah snapped a picture of the view from inside. Such an amazing space for your child to snuggle up with some stuffed animal friends.
