James Guiliani lived most of his life working for some of America’s most infamous crime families. Growing up in New York, James fell in with organized criminals at an early age. He was constantly surrounded by dangerous, old-school gangsters. By 2003, James was addicted to drugs and alcohol and was on the brink of suicide.
The day James met his now-wife, Lena, was the day that changed his life forever. Lena is a passionate animal advocate who introduced James to animal rescue. In 2006, James and Lena rescued an abused dog named Bruno — a seven-pound Shih Tzu. James fell so deeply in love with the fluffy white dog that he decided to dedicate his life to rescuing abused and abandoned animals. He realized he couldn't live a life of crime of violence anymore. "I’ve done some really bad things, horrible things to people and I need to do this," he says. "I need to redeem, I need to clear my conscience of a lot of things and the only way to do that is to give something back."
Two years ago, James set up a no-cage shelter for abandoned animals where he cares for 42 abandoned and problem pets. He relates to these unwanted animals because he, too, was once an outcast in need of love and family.
He may have a tough guy exterior, but those who know James say he's the sweetest man in the world. Thankfully, however, he's kept some of his gangster ways intact. "I still have no problem jumping out of a car hitting you with a baseball bat, but maybe not because you owe me money, but because you’re abusing a dog."
While continuing to work to save his beloved animals, James is eternally grateful for his new crime-free life. Please SHARE this inspiring story with your friends on Facebook!
