The Duggars have been in the spotlight since 2008. They started off with their TLC show 17 Kids and Counting from 2008 to 2009, followed by 18 Kids and Counting, and finishing with 19 Kids and Counting. Their show ran for seven seasons, ending in March 2015. On TV, the Duggars looked and acted like the perfect family, but it turns out behind the scenes was a different story.
J Aubrey, a YouTuber, created a video called The Depraved World of the Duggars — A Biblical Scandal. The video is broken up into sections starting with meeting the Duggars, followed by their belief system, raising a TV family, their “wholesome brand,” the first Josh incident, the leak, the fallout, more hidden secrets, and even Josh’s trial.
In the introduction of the video, J Aubrey states, “Let’s talk about reality TV, more specifically TLC.” If you watch TLC, you know how bizarre some of the channel's TV shows are. TLC was originally labeled as “The Learning Channel” in the 1980s, but the network started down a strange path of what it defined as “learning.”
Some of its most popular shows have been My Five Wives, Buying Naked, 90-Day Fiancé, My Strange Addiction, and even Extreme Cougar Wives. When 19 Kids and Counting first started out, it was an ultimate hit with audiences. This show followed Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s journey in raising 19 children under fundamentalist Baptist principles.
Their show had record-breaking ratings, and they became spiritual icons. Their world of skyrocketing fame crashed and burned when a scandal broke about their son Joshua Duggar.
The Duggars were invited to be on the Oprah Winfrey show, but the invite was quickly taken back when Oprah got an anonymous tip from a woman bringing to light the darker side of the Duggar family.
A 61-year-old woman reached out to Harpo Studios, warning about the Duggars' eldest son, Joshua Duggar. There were rumors about abuse within the family involving Joshua. The studio contacted local authorities, who opened an investigation into the incident. After interviewing multiple family members, the Duggars' family life turned upside down.
