Have you ever paused to wonder how some of your favorite fast food treats are made? Let’s just say that with some behind-the-scenes looks that pop up on social media that reveal some of the special tricks to achieving superior taste, you may want to reconsider how many times you’re driving through your local fast food haunts.
The New York Post sparked controversy when it shared the video a McDonald’s employee posted to TikTok to tell the world just how much sugar workers put into the popular iced tea drink.
As you watch the worker dump an entire bag of granulated sugar into what appears to be an extra large bucket of iced tea being made, the caption of the video reads “If y’all were wondering why the sweet tea is so sweet at McDonald’s.”
In case you’re wondering what the actual size of the bag of sugar is, the New York Post explains that it was a 4-pound bag of sugar, which seems like an overwhelming amount, especially for those with health issues, to be downing in a soft drink.
The report notes that since this video was posted, there has been some online debate from current and former McDonald’s employees about whether that is the correct amount of sugar used to make a batch of sweet tea.

The news outlet reports that some employees have spoken out to say this information is completely false, while others have stated that the fast food restaurant that they work at uses liquid artificial sweeteners to make the iced tea.
