An adult might find a fortune left in the ladies' bathroom and think nothing of it. But if you're a bullied teen looking for any sign of hope at school, it might be the message that changes everything.
Ashley Pastor, Destiny Skramstad, and Michelle Dubois have all dealt with harsh bullying in middle school and high school. The three girls found the note from a fortune cookie, which read, "The world will look a little better with some love given by you."
That's when Dubois came up with the idea. She immediately got to drawing and created a sign that read, "The Encouragement Wall." She posted the fortune cookie on the wall along with other positive messages she and her friends made.
The small fortune had made her day, and she hoped that anyone who was feeling depressed or saddened by bullying could look at the messages and know there were students that cared.
When the school principal got wind of the girls' "vandalism" in the bathroom, she was surprised to see it was all positive messages. From then on, The Encouragement Wall moved from out of the girls' bathroom and right to the center of the hall.
"You're never alone and there's always people out there. Yes, it may be hard but there are people who will stand by you and be your friend," Skramstad said.
Sometimes it takes a cosmic sign, to inspire you to get to where you're going.
