When I was a kid, I made it approximately two weeks in my tap dance class before deciding to call it quits. It wasn't that I stopped appreciating the percussive spin on choreography, but rather a lack of control over my limbs. No matter how hard I tried, I could never get them to repeat the routine the same way twice! So, I cut my losses, but that only makes me even more impressed by those who take on the challenging activity.
One of my favorite versions to observe is how tap is adapted by Irish step dancers. They don't even have to be at a mega-professional level for my jaw to hit the floor, like when I saw the amateur bride and groom strutting their stuff on their wedding day. Apart from being an amazing and mesmerizing interpretation, being part of their cultural tradition makes those fancy feet extra charming.
With the Innova Irish Dance Company, they embraced that tradition with their feet flying through the air to a familiar Celtic melody. However, it's when the music suddenly stops that they really begin to wow the judges. With their backs turned away, it seems like a strange pause to make when they're just getting started.
That's when they hear the music genre take a shift. One judge is so shocked to hear what's on the speaker that she actually gasps and says, "No!" It just goes to prove that though this type of dance has been around for quite a while, it will never go out of style.
