Director James Cameron Is Saving The Environment With This Solar Sun Flower Gift For His Wife

One birthday, Avatar director James Cameron surprised his wife Suzy Amis Cameron with his plans to build solar sunflowers for her. The flowers — which would sit at the MUSE School — brought her to tears.

Three years later, Cameron unveiled his creation at the California school with his wife by his side.

The five installed solar sunflowers are a source of renewable energy generating about 300 kilowatt-hours per day. The hope is to counteract the MUSE School’s power usage by up to 90 percent and help the environment.

“So much of her focus was on MUSE, and the school stood for something — the way in which we conduct our relationship with the planet. I though we should try to do something that inspires because this is about kids,” he said at the launch, reports The Hollywood Reporter. “Once you capture their imagination and empower them, they can do anything.”

Mrs. Cameron founded the MUSE school with her sister Rebecca Amis to expose children to sustainability programs.

“We foster compassion and optimism. We focus on preserving the environment and building community,” the school’s website reads.

The renowned director has a patent pending to prevent anyone from creating a company using his design since it wouldn't allow common people to build their own solar sunflowers.

“We are going to try to empower everyone who might be interested in this to make their own,” he says.
