Jamie Foxx Makes First Public Appearance Since Medical Emergency & Receives Surprise Award

Jamie Foxx has made his first public appearance since being hospitalized earlier in 2023 due to a medical emergency. His daughter, Corrine Foxx, is the one who broke the news in April. “We wanted to share that, my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday. Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery,” the post read. “We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time.”

The actor's public appearance came at the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Cinema and Television: Honoring Black, Latino and AAPI Achievements on December 4, 2023, where he received a surprise award.

He received the Vanguard Award for his performance in The Burial. While accepting the award, Jamie opened up about his health scare.

“I couldn’t do that six months ago, I couldn’t actually walk to [the stage]," he said. "And I’m not a clone, I’m not a clone. I know a lot of people saying that I was cloned out there,” he joked around.

“It feels good to be here. I cherish every single minute now, it’s different," the 55-year-old star continued. "I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy because it’s tough when it’s almost over, when you see the tunnel. I saw the tunnel, I didn’t see the light. It was hot in that tunnel too, I don’t know where I was going. ‘[Expletive], am I going to the right place?'”

“I have a new respect for life, I have a new respect for my art," Jamie continued. "I watched so many movies and listened to so many songs trying to have the time go by."

"Don’t give up on your art, man, don’t give up on your art," he concluded. "When you realize that it could be over like that … I got to tell you don’t give up on your art and don’t let them take the art from you either.”"

Though the details of his medical emergency have not been shared publicly, a few comments have led people to speculate what could have happened. Mike Tyson appeared on the PBD Podcast in May, sharing, “They said [it was] a stroke." The boxer then quickly clarified, "I have no idea what happened to him.”

A.J. Benza also shared what he thought had happened. In his appearance on the Ask Mr. Drew podcast back in May, the gossip columnist claimed that Jamie had a blood clot that led to a stroke that left him partially paralyzed and blind after getting the COVID-19 vaccine. However, reps for the actor denied the claims, calling them "completely inaccurate."

Fans are happy to see the actor back out and about.

"So glad he's back and is okay," one person commented. "Gotta love Jamie ❤️."

"I'm so happy he is doing okay," another person wrote. "I'm grateful for his life as he has been instrumental in many of my laughters."
