Celebrity moms generally fall into one of two categories: those who keep their kids off of their social media and out of the press at all costs, or those who aren't shy about showing off their children at any given opportunity.
Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher are one example of the former group. You'll never see their young son's or daughter's face on Ashton's Instagram page! Kristen Bell similarly never posts photos of her two kids — though she does share plenty of funny parenting anecdotes, like her older daughter's choice for their matching Halloween costumes.
On the flip side, you have moms like Jessica Simpson. Jessica's kids are undeniably adorable, and it's clear that she loves to document her family's life on social media. But when she shared a photo of the four of them wearing their Halloween costumes this year, mommy shamers quickly emerged to criticize her parenting choices.

Jessica Simpson definitely had one of the most outlandish celebrity Halloween costumes this year.
She and her husband, Eric Johnson, dressed as country music legends Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings, respectively. For Jessica, the look came complete with a full beard!

Later that day, Jessica also shared a photo of her entire family in costume. Her young son, Ace, continued the country theme with a cowboy costume.
But 5-year-old Maxwell Drew decided to embrace her inner Disney princess with a beautiful Belle from Beauty and the Beast costume.

Unfortunately, mommy shamers quickly emerged in the comments section to attack Jessica for one aspect of Maxi's cute costume: her brown hair color.

Anyone who follows Jessica on Instagram knows that her kids both have beautiful, light blonde hair naturally — which isn't surprising, given that Jessica and her husband both have light hair themselves.

It isn't quite clear exactly how Jessica changed her daughter's hair color to match Belle's darker hair from the movie. She might be wearing some sort of wig or a temporary spray.
But without knowing whether the change was permanent, some of Jessica's followers decided to get angry and criticize her for "dyeing" Maxi's hair brown.

While some were simply noticing the change and commenting on it (positively or negatively), a few people were flat-out demanding to know why Jessica would dye her 5-year-old's hair.
Sadly, this is far from the first time that Jessica has been mommy-shamed for her parenting choices.

Jessica kept her son Ace's hair very long for the first several years of his life.
But people had a lot of opinions about whether it was "appropriate" for a boy to have such long hair, something that is typically associated with girls.

When Jessica finally shared a photo of Ace's first haircut at age 4, people argued in the comments section about whether or not this shorter 'do was "better" for Ace.

Jessica was similarly criticized in 2016 for posting a photo of Maxi posing with a milkshake in hand and her hip cocked out to one side.
The singer captioned the photo with a lyric from the song "Milkshake" by Kelis. People immediately accused Jessica of "sexualizing" her young daughter, with some even calling the caption "gross."

Personally, I could care less about Maxi's hair or Jessica's parenting choices. In my opinion, hair is just hair. What Jessica does or doesn't do with her kids' hair doesn't affect me in any way.
I'm just wondering how her family will keep topping their Halloween costumes, which are more and more amazing every year!
In 2016, Jessica and Eric dressed up as Sandy and Danny from Grease, while the kids were once again off-theme as a parrot and an octopus.

Do you think the uproar over Maxi's hair was a bit overblown?
