When an actor part of an ensemble cast, it's important to show up for costars. In an age of reboots and cross-over universes, this can be a full-time job that an actor does not have the time to fully commit to. This appears to be the case in the Full House reboot, Fuller House.
John Stamos, who played Uncle Jesse on both series, appeared on the podcast And That’s What You REALLY Missed with Jenna Ushkowitz and Kevin McHale and confessed he was “angry” with Mary-Kate and Ashely Olsen for not participating in the reboot. Twins Mary-Kate and Ashley shared the role of Michelle Tanner, a popular Hollywood practice for young kids that allows shooting to go on even if one baby is fussy.
Fuller House premiered on Netflix in 2016 and ran for five seasons. Most of the original cast reprised their roles including the late Bob Saget, Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin, and Dave Coulier. The exception was, of course, the twins.
The reboot series’ plot centers around DJ Tanner moving back into her childhood home as a widow with her three sons. She is joined by her sister Stephanie, best friend Kimmy, and Kimmy’s daughter, Ramona. The women worked together to raise the children of the household.

The reboot’s plot is a nice nod to the original. Full House centered around Danny Tanner, DJ’s dad, raising his three daughters as a widower. He is aided by his best friends Jesse and Joey, with Jesse eventually raising a family of his own.
John’s anger might have been compounded by rumors that spread when the reboot was announced. Many claimed that the reason the twins did not appear was because they “hated their childhood” on the show. John squashed these rumors once and for all.
“But they said, ‘We loved our childhood. We loved being with you. We miss Bob,'” John explained.
The real reason the twins did not appear in the series is because they have retired from acting. They now work in fashion. This is also how the series explained their absence. Art imitating real life.
John only kept in touch with Mary-Kate and Ashley sporadically over the years. The late Bob Saget and the twins maintained a close relationship. After Bob’s death, John and the twins reconnected.
John recalled that the twins once brought him a “frozen pork chop and sage.” John thought it was “really nice” of them to give him the gift. Reconnecting with old friends is so meaningful.
