In a January 6, 2022, piece published by Interview magazine, Julia Fox wrote about her "instant connection" with Kanye West, saying, "his energy is so fun to be around. He had me and my friends laughing, dancing, and smiling all night."
Only now it seems like maybe Julia didn't write the piece. In her new memoir, Down the Drain, Julia dedicates some of the space to explaining the ups and downs of her short relationship with Kanye. In the mem9oir, she explains that Kanye asked her to write the piece for Interview.
While Julia agreed to write an article for Interview about the start of their relationship, Kanye was allegedly not satisfied with what she wrote and had someone else write a different version, which was not factual. Eventually, they worked together to create something to submit.
Kanye also reportedly sent photos to Interview without Julia knowing about it. In her memoir, Julia describes one of the times she met up with Kanye: they had dinner together, and racks of clothing were there along with a photographer to document the evening. Later that night, she discovered that her hotel room was also full of clothes from Kanye.

"After dinner Ye had a surprise for me. I mean, I’m still in shock. Ye had an entire hotel suite full of clothes. It was every girl’s dream come true. It felt like a real Cinderella moment," the 2022 Interview article said. But in Julia's memoir, she said she felt like a "show monkey." She also didn't know that the photos from the evening would be sent to Interview.
Julia also felt uncomfortable when one of the tops that Kanye left at the hotel didn't fit right. When Julia expressed this to him, he offered to get a boob job for her.
Julia also said that she and some of her friends received a nondisclosure agreement from Kanye, which she says she never signed. Another sign that Kanye tried to manage the way their relationship appeared: They were accompanied by stylists when they went out, so Julia's outfits were Kanye-approved.
Their brief relationship started at the beginning of 2022 (they officially met on New Year's Eve) at a time when Kanye was still clearly not over his ex-wife Kim Kardashian. Kanye and Kim's divorce was finalized later that year.
Julia explained that she began to notice that she was being used. “I feel like he’s using me in some weird, twisted game. It makes me feel dirty," she wrote.
Julia and Kanye began to have issues when they traveled to Paris for Paris Fashion Week. The then-couple had a fight, and Kanye said he didn't like some of Julia's friends. She was not fond of some of his friends either. Once she was back in the US, she did not hear from Kanye for some time, and an assistant of Kanye's told her that he was taking a "phone break."
Kanye eventually responded to Julia when she was working on a Supreme ad. He didn't like her outfit, which made her uncomfortable. He then celebrated her birthday with her and her friends in a way that felt like a "publicity stunt" to Julia. She wrote that he gave Birkin bags to her and her friends, but the whole event was documented by a photographer with intention.
“We do as we’re told and awkwardly throw our arms up and scream for joy as he stands off in the background, looking on with pride. As we pose like puppets, I question his true intentions, feeling that this grand gesture is nothing more than a publicity stunt," she wrote, describing the birthday celebration and Kanye's Birkin bag gift. The next day, Julia decided it was time to end her relationship with Kanye.
