Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have certainly had their differences over the years. That said, there's a lot about the tension between the two women that has been built by the media and doesn't necessarily speak to their actual experiences.
These days, it seems like the women are opting to keep the peace. It's been reported that Kate has been using Lilibet Diana's birth as an opportunity to extend an olive branch. Not only has she sent gifts, but she's also texted Meghan a few times. For her part, Meghan's been receptive to the kindness.
That said, the women aren't pushing anything where their husbands are concerned. Things seem as tense as ever between the two princes, but at least things between the larger family and Meghan seem to be taking a small step in the right direction.
It looks like things have a chance of being peaceful between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle. Throughout the ugliness of the past few years, media outlets have tried to pit the two women against each other despite little evidence that their relationship has a truly negative nature.
Even in the explosive Oprah Winfrey interview, Meghan was careful not to speak badly of Kate. You can argue she was protective, to a point.
"If you love me, you don’t have to hate her. And if you love her, you don’t have to hate me," she argued.
Now we're seeing further evidence that the two women have no problem being amicable, at the bare minimum. It seems Kate and Meghan have been in touch more since the birth of Lilibet Diana last month.
"Kate has been reaching out to Meghan a lot more since [Lilibet] was born, she's sending [notes and] gifts and trying to build up a relationship," a source told Us Weekly.
It's great that things between the women are improving, but there's not a lot of opportunity to see that in action if their husbands continue to feud. Things were quiet and peaceful for Diana's statue unveiling, but they didn't exactly seem comfortable. Even their brief time together at Prince Philip's funeral seemed strained, only relaxing a bit as Kate facilitated their conversation.
Now there are rumors of a larger reception related to the statue happening in September that will see the guests that had once been promised to attend the unveiling. If the event is really happening, it's likely Harry will attend. Whether or not Meghan will feel comfortable joining him with the kids remains to be seen.
It's also unclear if other members of the royal family would attend this September event, which would take place at Kensington Palace. They've steered clear of Diana-related events in the past, but they might also want to appear respectful. That said, it would put everyone face-to-face for the first time in a long time, and a Diana event would be the worst place for royal drama.
