Katy Perry Once Said She Knew The ‘Real Truth’ About Ex Russell Brand: ‘Locked In My Safe’

Katy Perry's past interviews about her marriage to ex-husband Russell Brand are getting a second look in 2023 in light of the allegations four women made against Brand. He is accused of rape and sexual assault.

Perry and Brand were married for 14 months, from 2010 to 2012, which is short in the real world but pretty impressive in the entertainment industry. Brand famously broke up with Perry via text, telling her he was filing for divorce as she was preparing to head out onstage to perform a show.

In a 2013 interview with Vogue, Perry explained, "I felt a lot of responsibility for it ending, but then I found out the real truth, which I can’t necessarily disclose because I keep it locked in my safe for a rainy day."

She added, "I let go and I was like: This isn’t because of me; this is beyond me. So I have moved on from that."

Perry also spoke about what attracted her to Brand in the first place. She explained, "At first when I met him he wanted an equal, and I think a lot of times strong men do want an equal, but then they get that equal and they’re like, I can’t handle the equalness."

She concluded, "He didn’t like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour. So that was really hurtful, and it was very controlling, which was upsetting."
