Every time I take a trip that involves visiting the ocean, the same thing happens. I am so overly excited to see water and feel the sand in my toes that I run out into the shore and splash around until I finally get up the courage to dive under a wave and swim a few feet away from the beach.
It's one of the greatest feelings in the world (provided the water isn't freezing cold), just being in the water looking out at what seems to be the never ending ocean, occasionally glancing back to the beach to make sure you don't float out too far.
Somewhere between the excitement and struggle to keep my head above the waves, the panic starts to kick in:
"WHAT JUST TOUCHED MY LEG?!"
"IS THAT A SHADOW OF A SHARK?!"
The lucky kayakers in this video prove that sometimes the ocean isn't as scary as we make it out to be, because the shadow under them turns out to be a friendly seal who just wants some buddies for his swim.
It's animals that this seal, and the curious baby sea lion that put on a show for a GoPro that make me want to wait it out in the water a little bit longer next time…maybe.
If you would swim with a seal, please SHARE!
