While Testing ‘Knife-Proof’ Vest On Air, Reporter Gets Stabbed & Ends Up Needing Stitches

It can be a dangerous world out there for frontline journalists these days. So much so that it’s really not a bad idea for them to wear protective gear while reporting on location in high-conflict areas.

In this segment shared by Inside Edition, we catch a glimpse of a reporter in Israel testing out a knife-proof vest on camera. He is stabbed in the back several times, only to suffer a superficial stab wound that shows that the vest might not be fully up to snuff.

In the video, a journalist for Israel’s Channel 1, Eitam Lachover, can be seen wearing the alleged stab-proof vest while a representative for the vest manufacturer tells him in Hebrew that he has “nothing to worry about” as they are “very confident in [their] product.” Perhaps the representative spoke a little too soon, though.

They test the front of some of the vests that are sitting out on a table, and then Eitam puts one on and wants to have the product tested firsthand on camera. When the representative stabs the reporter several times in the back, the knife actually punctures through the vest, causing a superficial stab wound that has to be stitched up at the hospital.

Avi Blum, the company’s CEO, told CNN that the material had not been sewn in place or fully anchored in the reporter’s jacket, so it moved down slightly and the stab wound took place in a portion of the vest where there was no “anti-stabbing material.”

Eitam tweeted after the event and told his followers that he was OK and “released back home.”
