Jennifer Karijomenggolo couldn't believe it when her daughter, Keira, came home from Melrose Elementary School in Harrisburg, PA. Keira was sent home by the nurse, who discovered a bed bug on her.
However, when Jennifer examined her daughter, she found more bugs. She took them to the state entomology where it was determined they were not only bed bugs, but lice, too.
“I found three other bugs, one bug was found on her and then three other bugs were on her personal belongings," Jennifer said.
Keira has multiple disabilities and a sensitive immune system. Jennifer knows that the bugs did not come from their home because they have a monthly exterminator and are extra diligent about hygiene.
Jennifer believes the bugs came from the school and special education teacher, Nancy Adams agrees. Though she retired a month prior to Keira's situation, Adams claims that there were bugs the entire time she was a teacher.
“They were found every single day. I would save them, I had a huge collection," Adams said. "They said they were treating the room but I never saw any evidence that they were."
State law requires schools to use pesticides and to notify parents three days before they are used. Jennifer says the school never notified her of anything.
