Robin and Joe Nalvanko have been together for 11 years. In that time, they've built their lives together, and now have a family.
The couple also likes to explore the great outdoors, and did so on a recent rock climbing excursion in at the Bellevue State Park in Fairfax County, VA. Everything was going according to plan until they decided to climb a steep bluff.
A boulder that Joe was clinging onto got loose, and started rolling downhill. With Robin directly underneath him, the boulder was heading straight for her head.
It looked like their marriage was going to come to a deadly end, but Joe pulled an impossible heroic feat. When it started falling, he pushed it away from him, and the momentum of the rock worked against him.
He fell 20 feet and landed on jagged rock, and then rolled an additional 20 feet. He was alive, but badly hurt.
The couple hobbled to the hospital, where Joe was treated for relatively minor injuries, including deep cuts and a twisted knee.
But when they think about what could have happened instead, Robin knows that her husband saved her life! Now, they're not taking all the moments they share as a family for granted.
