For Mike and Bonnie Osenton, marriage was more than an agreement to love each other for life. It was also a vow to save each other's lives.
Mike Osenton found out his kidneys were failing. The news changed both his and his wife's lives forever.
In the video below, posted on February 8, 2017, the 63-year-old dad explains, "You don't have time for anything else. Doing the dialysis is just like having a part-time job because I go three days a week, four hours a day. And then once you get out, all you really want to do is go sit in your chair and sleep."
Bonnie says, "It's been a struggle for me because when I met Mike, he was very athetic, very active. When our boys were growing up, Mike coached wrestling, he coached little league football, baseball. I mean, to see him to see him where he's not able to do that anymore really hurt my heart."
Since Mike's diagnosis two and a half years prior, the couple had been waiting and hoping for him to move up on the transplant donation list doctors placed his name on. Then, Mike realized just how serious his circumstances were.
With over 93,000 people waiting on the list for a new kidney, he would have to wait between five and 10 years until he would receive his own. When Bonnie heard this, she knew there had to be another way to save her dear husband's life.
Bonnie recalls telling her husband, "You're not going to wait." Thankfully, she meant it,
Mike's wife of 40 years went to get some medical tests done on herself and tried to see if her beloved husband could avoid a long and hard decade of dialysis.
