As a mom, losing a child is perhaps one of the worst things that can ever happen, whether this child was already born or still in the womb. It would be a devastating and life-altering moment to find out that that child is no longer in her life.
Or as mom of three Rochelle Kinder would describe it, her "world ended." She suffered the miscarriage of her fourth child just 12 weeks into a surprise pregnancy. She went to an ultrasound appointment expecting to find out the sex of her child, but instead got the terrible news.
But throughout the 12 weeks, Rochelle had a weird pain in her arms and chest, which she attributed to the pregnancy. Even two months after the miscarriage, she still felt the pain. So, she performed a self-examination of her breasts and found a lump in one. Now that she wasn't pregnant, she didn't think twice before going to the doctor, who confirmed the worst: Rochelle had Stage 2 triple negative breast cancer.
Rochelle knows that she is alive today because of her miscarriage: If she had carried her baby to term, she would have continued to dismiss the pain. Instead, she was able to catch her cancer in time, before it could have been too late. Now, she's sharing her story and hopes that other moms will make their health as much of a priority as their children's.
