Janelle Della-Libera made a bold choice that nearly cost her life. Della-Libera was pumping gas into her SUV when a thief opened her car door and scooped up her purse.
Della-Libera ran after him. When the thief got into his car, the mother jumped onto the hood. What she didn't expect was for the maniac to hit the gas and start driving — she was still on the car.
"I ran around to his side of the car, got on the car, hoping that he wouldn't drive off," she said. "I reached into the driver's side. I had my hand on my handbag and, and at that point, he drove off."
She fell off the hood and the criminal drove over her leg. Della-Libera was lucky though. She suffered a few lacerations and only a sprain. Doctors were stunned that her leg wasn't shattered. The tough mother is expected to make a complete recovery.
"His driver side tire drove over my foot," she said. "He just kept cursing and calling me names in an attempt to scare me and get me off, but I think I literally scared him to death, which is what caused him to drive off."
But the mother still regrets her decision. Ultimately, she believes her purse wasn't worth it. The man could have had a gun, or he could have killed her with his car. She is sharing her story to teach others it's best not to fight back, but rather call the authorities as soon as the event happens.
"He could have killed me," she said.
