This Professional Musician Was Bullied As A Child. What He’s Doing Now Brought Tears To My Eyes!

Professional musician Chad Bernstein didn’t always fit in when he was growing up, but music turned his life around. Now, he’s trying to give this experience to others.

“As a kid I struggled a lot with self esteem and bullying and that desire to fit in,” he says in the CNN video below. “When I found trombone, music became the place that I could do that.”

Struggling with these types of issues is hard for any kid, just look at these children, who break down when talking about getting picked on in school. Or this kid who almost ended his life until his mother’s plan saved him.

Aside from bullying, it’s also easy for children to fall into the wrong crowds.

To help students like these, Bernstein started Guitars Over Guns, an after-school program aimed to help at-risk students in Miami. The program mentors the children and teaches them to play instruments.

“A lot of times, these kids only see to the end of their block. We like to give them exposure to the rest of the world,” he says. “The best part about our program is watching these kids really transform.”

One of the students reveals how this program has changed his life at the 1:15 mark and what he explains is really heartwarming.

“When I see a kid have their moment, it makes you realize that we are doing work that matters,” Bernstein says.
