One of the three winning tickets in Wednesday's Powerball drawing belonged to a 26-year-old mother of four, who was recently forced to quit her job at Walmart. Marie Holmes quit to take care of her children, one of whom has cerebral palsy. On a whim, she'd stopped into a gas station in North Carolina to purchase a ticket.
After the drawing, Holmes came forward with what appears to be a winning ticket.
"I wouldn't have none of it if it wasn't for God," Holmes said in a TV interview. "I'm thankful that I can bless my kids with something that I didn't have."
She said she will donate some of the money to her church and then put aside money for her children to go to college.
"I'm ready for it. I'm ready to embrace the change. I'm very grateful for what's about to happen for my family."
All remains "pending" on the Powerball's website, and so Holmes' ticket has yet to be confirmed as a winner. The other winners have yet to step forward.
