Maya Angelou is an icon around the globe for being a teacher, activist, artist, author and a warrior for equality, tolerance and peace. She is best known for her breakthrough book "I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings", which made her the first black women writer to gain mainstream success. Angelou was an all around fascinating person, who gave multiple generations a voice… and hope.
To remember her life, I'm sharing with you an excerpt from one of her best known poems, "Still I Rise". This poem was meant to be a call to assertiveness and pride for African Americans, as it touches on slavery, racism and the drug war in America. However, it has become so much more… A poem in which each and every human being can relate to overcoming personal struggle. Please SHARE to honor and remember the life a truly amazing woman.
