Being The Tallest Woman Alive Means She Has Never Been Able To Take A Flight, Until Now

Have you ever had a lifelong dream that seemed incredibly farfetched due to personal circumstances only to have it finally come true? Those moments can feel pretty darn incredible.

Inside Edition reports on Rumeysa Gelgi of Turkey, who is certified by the Guinness World Records as the tallest living woman. She has now been able to live out one of her lifelong dreams of traveling by plane.

Rumeysa is over 7 feet tall, which is a result of a rare genetic disorder called Weaver syndrome. The condition causes rapid and intense growth that can start prior to birth.

The Guinness World Record holder also lives with scoliosis, which means she possesses a sideways curvature of the spine. She can only sit for approximately two hours at a time and has to rest lying down.

Even though she’s had dreams of seeing the world, both of these health issues have always prevented Rumeysa from flying until recently. Turkish Airlines helped to make Rumeysa’s lifelong travel dreams a reality in September 2022.

The airline installed a stretcher to help accommodate her underlying health issues and tall stature on a flight from Istanbul to San Francisco, California.

According to ABC 7 News, the 25-year-old spent several weeks in California’s Bay Area as she looked for a job in the tech industry and took in all of the sites, including Apple Park, which is the corporate headquarters for Apple, Inc.

Rumeysa said that she hopes this is only the first trip of many that she wants to take in the future.
